Today I have some super creative wedding invitations to share with you guys! The first was sent to me by reader Meagan Pierce. Meagan’s mom, brother and friend helped her create these beauties! A bit about the invites from Meagan, My mom + brother bought a sheet of plywood from Lowe’s and cut them into 5×7 pieces and sanded them down/rounded the edges themselves. Then they gave them to my friend Jessica who is a graphic designer. She created the front side based off a photograph from our engagement shoot. She drew the picture of us and they turned out identical! After she designed everything she took them to screenprint, which she did herself. All of our guests have ooh’ed and awed over them!
And how about the lovely illustration + type treatment on these beauties by designer Andres Montano? (You can also see their gorgeous wedding photographed by Sarah Yates here). Super fun!
I think these below might have some of the most detailed + fun use of type I’ve seen for a Save the Date! These were designed by Jennifer James at Two Paperdolls. Jennifer designed these for her sister, Kelly. Since it was her sister, she was able to create a design that shares lots of fun little details about the couple – love that!
And the balloon Save the Date – so so creative. Love it. After ten years together, Jen + Kevin got engaged in Paris – a location they subtly acknowledged in a nod to Albert Lamorisse’s short film The Red Balloon when designing their save the date announcement. Wanting to treat their wedding as a big party more so than a traditional event, each guest received a deflated, red balloon tied to a letterpress printed card reading: “Hello! Please inflate the balloon.” Once inflated, the piece reveals all relevant information and sets the desired tone with humor and playfulness.

I LOVE how creative these are! The woodcuts are original and beautiful, the second one is adorable with the cartoon couple, the fact that the third tells the story of the couple is wonderful and soooo personal, and the balloon is just such a fresh idea – I’ve never seen that before in a save the date!
Oh my: I adore the red balloon idea! That’s such a playful and creative way to give your guests the details.
Wow – good finds! These are awesome. I especially love the balloon – so original!
Looooooooove these!!! so fun!
I second that! The design Jessica created fit the woodcut idea perfectly and balloon save the date is way cool!

I’m in love with Clayton and Kelly’s save the date – just love the story, the font, the colors…all of it! And that balloon is genius!!

Ooh, I LOVE the balloon idea – how adorable! And the wooden invites are just divine.
We’re so excited to see our wedding invitations featured among these other fabulous and creative invites, and on one of my favorite wedding blogs! My husband, Andres had so much fun designing the cartoon versions of us and even added the married versions of them on our thank you cards (that I still have to send out…eek!)
Love those other designs. So fun!
JUNIA- I loved your invites! So perky!
I love all of these gorgeous mini pieces of art! One of the weddings is on my birthday! 11/20/2010! :)
happy day!
Who would have ever thought of using plywood for wedding invitations! There is no limit to how far one could take this idea. I’m thinking collage!

Wow I just came across this and just wanted to say thank you for posting this and for the kind words! I’m thrilled to be included in a line up with such lovely work.
Can you tell me where the balloons were ordered? I am trying to order custom balloons for our wedding.
Thank you,
Ray
I like the balloon idea very much. It really very good.
Hi, I’d love to know where could I order this kind of save-the-date balloons? :)
I loved the Meagan and David wedding card. Something resonated with me as soon as I saw the picture of the guy in the card ;-). Though I would get it made on shiny paper. I adored the bouquet and card photograph a little to much too, great shot!
