Inspired Invitations by Kristy Rice: Part Three

Today I have the third and final post in my collaboration with invitation designer Kristy from Momental Designs (you can see parts one here and two here). This board is for a chic + modern music inspired downtown wedding.

From Kristy, Our hand painted letterpress literally gives new dimension to this age old printing technique. Jen’s board resonated most with me because of the play on textures from the shine of the vinyl record to the fluff of the feathers and tulle. I could not imagine a more perfect stationery detail than letterpress to bring this collection to life.

With white text and artwork letterpress printed on gunmetal shimmer cardstock my peony illustration really pops. A sketchy chandelier painted in gold adds an air of romance. Each peony was heavily painted in acrylic shades of blush, peach white and gold. Paint applied heavily feels sumptuous as you run your fingers over the page. Subtle touches of crimson ink in the flower centers adds an unexpected pop of color and vibrancy to this otherwise muted wedding invitation collection.

I love to find fun ways to incorporate “junk” items into my designs and give them new life. We all have scratched beyond repair records lying around, right? If not, these can be found at most weekend garage sales. I hand painted my vinyl with a bright white acrylic and then added a free hand peony painting. The yellow record label could not have been more perfect for this color palette!

Another favorite element here is the use of stripes. Inspired by the groom’s socks and bride’s bouquet tie I created a Pocketfold® closure detail with a black velvet ribbon wrap and artwork tag.
