Bohemian Wedding in Texas on Thanksgiving: Ashley + Peter

giant balloon

Ashley + Peter are bakery owners and foodies, so it’s no surprise that food was the center of their wedding. And what better food date to choose than Thanksgiving! :) After Ashley proposed to Peter (how fun!), they wondered how to choose a date for the most important day in their lives. Nothing seemed to stand out more than Thanksgiving! Although unconventional, Thanksgiving traditionally stands for: a gluttonous feast, gathering of friends and family, and most importantly, a day to be thankful for the real treasures in life. So it exactly kind of makes perfect sense. :) Oh, and a killer party was needed too, of course! It was also important to them to support local business, as local business is what supports their bakery.

Thanks so much to Ashlee Newman Photography for the photos and congrats to Ashley + Peter!

From Ashley: The invitations. Wow! What an adventure. The maid of honor helped us make these “relief print” gems. After we carved a linoleum block, the three week process of printing began. Let’s just say we spent a lot of hot Texas nights sweating over these beauts. So. Worth. It.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Standing with my dream man, finally, after all the preparation and craziness. As soon as Jacob performed the sage blessing, I felt a calming come over me, and have never felt more at peace.

Crocheting is a family tradition for both Pete and I. My own grandmother taught me as a young girl, and I gravitated toward crocheted dresses for the bridesmaids. Two bridesmaids even made their dresses! The bridal party rocked leather pieces by a local jeweler (Robin Morratti Jewelry). The groom’s men wore locally crafted glass belt buckles by artisan Mark Joiner.

reception

Our wedding designer repurposed a discarded roll of butcher paper from the bakery, hand painted different patterns on 8 ft long strips, and used it as table runners.

We had a heritage pig from a local farm, raised special for the occasion. The cake, pistachio with honey buttercream, was made in our own bakery (2 Tarts), and the cake topper was created by our wedding planner.

We immediately knew we wanted the White Ghost Shivers for our reception. They have a magnetic energy and captivating performance that is second to none. The dance floor was swinging all night long!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Your wedding day is just that, one day. So I say, enjoy all the preparation just as much as the day itself. Pete and I had a great time crafting and planning for hours. Tearing sheets for garland, painting wooden signs, hand printing 150 custom invitations, these are things memories are made of.
