Thanks so much for all your wonderful movie suggestions this week! I had such a fun time reading through all your ideas. And the good news is since these posts have been so popular, I’m going to make this a monthly feature!
Today, though I’m sharing a much requested and one of my all-time favorite movies, Amélie. Amélie is a whimsical French film about a shy waitress, played by the beautiful Audrey Tautou, who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better – and ends up falling in love. It takes place in Montmartre, France + was nominated for 5 Academy Awards in 2001 including Best Art Direction.

One of my most favorite things about the movie is the use of color. Lots of bright reds, greens, and blues. I think that would make a great color palette. Amelie loved the simple things in life, such as cracking crème brûlée with a teaspoon and skipping stones across St. Martin’s Canal. I think these would be so fun to incorporate into your day: mini heart shaped crème brûlée for dessert, stones covered in lace and red fabric as ceremony decor. A bright red wedding dress for a wedding outdoors with lots of greenery. Lots of fun, whimsical elements throughout the day.
The reception would take place by a carousal. Love letters the bride + groom wrote to each other would hang from colorful clothespins. And of course a photo booth to capture all your guests and create your very own photo book from the day. Amelie finds an an old metal box of childhood memorabilia hidden by a boy who lived in her apartment decades earlier. It would be so fun to create your own time capsule from the wedding day and hide for someone else to find years later. The bride and groom leave for their honeymoon on a motorbike. :)
Adore this post!! I do so love Amelie!! What a fun, whimsical wedding this would be!
I love this, and I love that your doing Movie post! Looking forward to seeing more

This movie was so inspirational for me, what a way to start your life together!
omg those shoes are KILLER!
anonymous – My guess is the shoes are Christian Louboutin's since they have his signature red sole…yep [googled it] they are his Rosazissimo blue satin heels They are in the lower price point for Louboutins – about $600.
My sister served individual creme brulees at her wedding instead of cake and everyone cracked the sugar at the same time. It was a blast.
just watched this movie on valentines day and remembered how much i love it! you hit everything dead on :) xoxo, c
Loving it!!!!
I ♥ it! This is by far my all time favorite movie! I saw it 3x in the theater. Of course when it came time for my wedding I infused some of the movie into the day including playing Yann Tiersen's lovely music as my girls and later myslef walked down the aisle!
Now I can smile everytime I hear the soundtrack and think of my wedding day? ;0)
Love it, love it, love it!
Everytime I see the Travelocity gnome. I want to be on the Amazing Race! Great collection of pics!
My daughter is flying in for spring break on Saturday. Have been wondering what movie to watch together. I inherited a wonderful projector for watching movies and we watch them on our great room wall -14 feet tall. My friends are always coming over for movie night – so tomorrow I'll be going out to rent this movie. Thanks for the idea and especially for your pictures, words and inspiration. You have an amazing blog and can't wait everyday to see what's new.
amelie is the best! the film is filled with inspiration- love it <3 thanks for sharing.
BEST MOVIE EVER. great choice!
Love this post !
Just to be a bit pernickety though, Montmartre is an area in Paris. I don't know if this is what you meant.
I'm so looking forward to the next post.
Thank you for your blog, it definetly gave me wonderful ideas for my wedding in october.
And it IS the best blog ever! So chic!
I love the saturation of the colors in this movie! It reminded my of one of my favorite movies the "Darjeeling Limited." This is the movie about the 3 brothers (Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman) traveling/adventuring through India together after the passing of their father. The colors in the movie are so intense and wonderful!!! The would be a really great inspiration board, and incorporating the cultural designs would add some flare… :)
Mélize – Yep, thanks for clarifying. That is what I meant, but maybe that wasn't clear. :)
Sarah- Ooh, love the idea of inspiration from Darjeeling Limited! Adding it to my list for a future feature. Thanks!!
What a wonderful inspiration board!
I just love the shoes! And wouldn't a carousal be perfect for pictures? *swoon*
Seriously, I also love, LOVE, the shoes. Does anyone know who made them, where to see them, etc…?
