Happy Friday, friends! We’re prettttty excited about today’s gorgeous NYC wedding, which felt like just the thing to wind down this lovely week on a high note. Half the guests from this celebration flew in from Australia to witness Imogen, an aussie girl, and Reuben, an american boy, get married at sunset on a rooftop overlooking the Hudson River. Imogen looked like a modern-bohemian goddess (we just made that up, but we think it’s going to soon be a thing) in her stunning Johanna Johnson gown + headpiece and the mix of city and nature represented in the wedding setting was a perfect reflection of these two adventurous souls. What do you say we hear a bit more about their inspiration before checking out the gorge photos Bayly & Moore captured of the day…
Our inspiration for our wedding day was our love of nature, vintage and New York. We met and fell in love in Manhattan and got engaged at a cabin in the woods, so an urban loft with a rooftop garden overlooking Manhattan felt like a good mix of city and nature. From the moment we met we’ve always loved doing camping trips together and searching for old things at little antique stores along the way. So that inspired us to make our reception feel like an intimate candlelit dinner party in the woods which we did through using lots of moss, branches and wild florals and we also brought in old books and vintage mason jars from our home that we’ve collected on those trips.
Did we nail her description with “modern-bohemian goddess” or what?!
And Imogen tells us, The inspiration behind the bridesmaids dresses was sort of ‘maidens of the forest’ with whimsical flowing material, flower crowns and loose bouquets.
Processional: Grow Old with Me – Tom Odell (Acoustic Version)
Recessional: Litty Bitty Pretty One – Thurston Harris
First Dance: Nothing Can Change this Love – Sam Cooke
What a seriously dreamy shot!
My favorite moment was when Reuben and I got to have time alone together after our ceremony, walking through the cobble stone streets of New York as the sunset. It was so surreal and exciting to realize you are married and are going to spend the rest of your life with your favorite person. It was extra special to us as it was also a moment for us to say goodbye to New York. We were leaving the next day to fulfill our dream of traveling around the world for a year, so it was a nice moment for us to get excited about not only the amazing night ahead but also all the adventures to come.
We used an Australian Christmas tradition of crackers for our table settings, which guests could pull open with the person next to them to reveal the menu, paper hats, wearable candy & fortune fish which was a great ice breaker for all the out-of-towners. For our favors we gave out our two favorite things (bacon and coffee beans) covered in our third favorite thing (chocolate) which were from a candy store in Reuben’s hometown in Pennsylvania.

Try to reduce the amount of time you need to spend on the little details like addressing envelopes, table name cards, making programs etc. If you can order it all online or ask your bridesmaids to help it will make things so much more relaxing for you. We are so glad that we used 'Appycouple' to create our own wedding app and website. It was very easy to set up and our guests loved having all the info on their phone. Repurposing decorations throughout the day is a great way to reduce costs. Our florist/day-of-coordinator helped repurpose the down the aisle floral bouquets for the reception tables and our ceremony arch became decorations inside. Make sure you get some time after the ceremony with just you two. We did our couple photos during the cocktail hour and it was so nice to have that time to each other before the party really kicks off. After all, the day is about you two.
